Can a 3 metre pallet fit in a standard van?

Short answer: usually no.

Most standard vans (like SWB or MWB) simply don’t have the internal load length to safely carry anything over 2.4–2.7 metres.

Even with a Long Wheel Base (LWB) van, you’re typically looking at:

Internal load length: ~3.2m to 3.5m (best case)

Limited loading flexibility

Tight clearance, especially with pallets

A 3m pallet might fit in an LWB—but it’s tight and not always practical.
A 3.5m pallet? You’re pushing it or risking failure.

The real issue isn’t just length

Most people focus only on length—but that’s where things go wrong.

You also need to consider:

• Forklift access (can it be loaded safely?)
• Weight distribution
• Height clearance
• How it’s positioned inside the van
• Example: A 3.5m pallet loaded into a van that’s “just about big enough” can:
• Be unsafe in transit
• Damage goods
• Be refused at collection or delivery

The right vehicle for a 3m–4m pallet

In most cases, the correct choice is:

• Luton van (curtainside if possible)
• Longer, more usable load space
• Easier side loading with forklifts
• Better weight distribution
• Safer for oversized freight

This removes the guesswork and reduces risk completely.

Why choosing the wrong van costs more

Trying to save money by using a smaller van often backfires:

• Failed collection = wasted time
• Reloading onto another vehicle
• Delayed delivery
• Damaged reputation with your customer

That “cheaper option” quickly becomes the expensive one.

A client needed to move a 3.5m pallet, 80kg, 1.2m wide.

• LWB van (cheaper upfront)
• Luton van (slightly higher cost)

The LWB would have required:

• Awkward loading
• Limited clearance
